Chapter 47
Ye Jiaojiao, feeling very displeased at being ignored, followed Qiu Chi upstairs, only to find her heading straight for the Ye parents' room.
Her eyes widened instantly, and she rushed over. "What do you think you're doing? How can you go into Mom and Dad's room? I'm calling them right now!"
Qiu Chi ignored her and went straight to the cabinet beside the bed.
By the time Qiu Chi had the ID card in her hand, Ye Jiaojiao had already gotten through to Mother Ye's phone and was tattling, "Mom, Ye Tiantian is back! She even ran into your room and took something, I don't know what..."
Qiu Chi waited for her to finish, then took the phone from her hand. "Madam Ye, you should know full well what I took. Whatever schemes you were plotting before, I advise you to save it. If you dare to show your face in front of me again, you won't want to see what happens."
With that, Qiu Chi tossed the phone back to Ye Jiaojiao and left the Ye residence.
Just as she stepped out of the Ye residence, Qiu Chi saw several black sedans parked at the gate.
Upon seeing Qiu Chi, the occupants of the cars all emerged. A group of burly bodyguards surrounded her, and a man standing outside the circle spoke, "Miss Ye, our president would like to see you. Please come with us."
Having been through the first world, Qiu Chi had long since seen through the combat capabilities of these bodyguards.
She glanced at the bodyguards surrounding her and asked, "And if I refuse?"
The man's expression showed a hint of difficulty, but his words were anything but. "Then I'm afraid we'll have to be impolite."
"Heh." Qiu Chi found it rather amusing. "Fu Nanjue is still lying in the hospital, isn't he? Do you know how he ended up there?"
The man's expression remained unchanged. "Miss Ye, our president likes you, so he is willing to indulge you. But that doesn't mean you can act so unscrupulously just because of his indulgence."
"The president isn't here today, and these men don't know how to hold back. It would be unfortunate if Miss Ye were to get hurt. So, will you come willingly? Or must we 'invite' you?"
The man knew Fu Nanjue was in the hospital, but he didn't know the extent of his injuries, as Fu Nanjue had sent him directly to the Ye residence to intercept her.
In his mind, Ye Tiantian was just a weak woman who didn't know what was good for her. He assumed Fu Nanjue was in the hospital simply because of her willfulness, which had likely resulted in a minor, accidental injury.
Therefore, he didn't take Qiu Chi seriously at all.
As for Fu Nanjue's instruction to bring extra men, he had interpreted it as a precaution in case she tried to run away.
Unfortunately, underestimating one's enemy is the gravest mistake.
"I'd love to see just how you plan to 'invite' me."
"Since Miss Ye insists on being so unappreciative, don't blame us for being discourteous."
As soon as the man finished speaking, the bodyguards surrounding Qiu Chi started to move.
Qiu Chi clenched her fists. Fighting several men at once was nothing to her; she even had the spare attention to observe the man who had been speaking.
The man was Fu Nanjue's special assistant and was always by his side. Though he seemed inconspicuous, he was fiercely loyal to Fu Nanjue, who trusted him completely and relied on him for many tasks.
However, he didn't like Ye Tiantian, and his attitude toward her had always been indifferent. Most people would probably assume this was simply due to his loyalty to Fu Nanjue.
But after reading the entire plot, Qiu Chi had noticed something else.
This man... he was likely in love with Fu Nanjue.
After dealing with the surrounding bodyguards, Qiu Chi advanced, ignoring the man's shocked gaze.
The man kept backing away until he was pressed against a car with nowhere else to go. Only then did Qiu Chi stop. "I remember your surname is Zhang. Assistant Zhang, there's something I'd like to discuss with you."
Despite being intimidated by her fighting prowess, his expression toward Qiu Chi remained hostile. "I don't think we have anything to talk about."
"Your opinion isn't important. I want to talk to you about Fu Nanjue."
Qiu Chi observed him closely. At the mention of Fu Nanjue, his eyes filled with alarm. Forgetting his fear of being beaten, he demanded, "What are you planning to do to the president?"
"I'm not planning to do anything to him. I'm asking if you want to do something to him."
A flicker of confusion crossed Assistant Zhang's eyes. "What do you mean?"
Qiu Chi didn't beat around the bush and got straight to the point. "Are you in love with Fu Nanjue?"
Her words were like knocking over a paint palette; Assistant Zhang's face shifted through shades of green, white, and black.
Finally, he burst out in shame and anger, "What nonsense are you spouting? I'm a man, and the president is a man..."
But his words only sounded like a clumsy attempt to hide the truth.
Qiu Chi cut him off. "Who says a man can't love another man? You don't need to rush to deny it. I'm just asking: if you were given the chance to have Fu Nanjue, would you take it?"
Assistant Zhang lowered his gaze and said nothing.
The time they had wasted was enough for Mother Ye to rush back.
The moment she got out of her car and saw Qiu Chi, she moved to slap her, but Qiu Chi caught her wrist in a firm grip.
Qiu Chi's grip was powerful. "You should be glad I don't like to hit women."
With that, she flung Mother Ye's hand away. A bruise was already forming on her wrist.
Clutching her wrist, Mother Ye glared viciously at Qiu Chi. "You're rebelling! If we hadn't brought you back, would you be living so well? Not only are you ungrateful, you dare to raise a hand against me?! It's a blessing you've earned over eight lifetimes for President Fu to even look at you. Don't be so utterly unappreciative! The ID card, hand it over!"
Qiu Chi thought that Mother Ye, much like Father Su from the first world, was completely incapable of reading the situation.
Even now, she was still ordering her around as if it were her right.
She shot Mother Ye a contemptuous glance, then turned to Assistant Zhang. "Think carefully about what I just said. If you haven't made up your mind in three days, then don't bother."
