Chapter 26: AV Star Factory (10)
After the assessment, it was time for lunch.
This time, the tray finally had some meat—a small piece of black pepper beef patty.
Ji Ning and Song Weiyang were arguing over how much of her patty she should share with him. They were happily bickering when two trays abruptly landed on the table in front of them.
Ji Ning looked up; it was Female Player No. 3 and Male Player No. 8.
"Mind if we join?" No. 8 asked.
Song Weiyang looked innocent enough, but he wasn't so easy to mess with. He looked No. 8 straight in the eye and said unhurriedly, "There are plenty of empty tables. Does ours smell nicer or something?"
"Weiyang, don't be so wary. We came to discuss cooperation," No. 3 stepped in to defuse the tension, turning to Ji Ning. "Hi, my name is He Huihui. Can we talk for a moment?"
A few words weren't a problem, and besides, Ji Ning wanted to know their intentions. She nodded, then looked at Song Weiyang for his approval.
Once Ji Ning agreed, Song Weiyang wouldn't refuse. He gave a simple, "Sit."
After taking their seats, He Huihui got straight to the point: "Lu Feng and I really need to take first place this time. If you two can help us, we'll return the favor if we meet in the future."
Some things couldn't be spelled out too clearly here, to avoid being overheard by NPCs.
He Huihui and Lu Feng wanted Ji Ning and Song Weiyang to ease up in the next two assessments and let them have first place.
Their offer was unconditional assistance if they ever crossed paths in another instance.
Ji Ning's brows knit together slightly. Accumulating points was every player's goal—so why did Lu Feng and the others need that 150-point first prize more than she and Song Weiyang did?
This instance's first-place reward was 150 points, second place 80—a staggering difference of 70 points.
Currently, Ji Ning and Song Weiyang led by seven points, putting them in a very advantageous position for first.
Ji Ning could never do something as saintly as handing first place to someone else. If she could get 150 points, why settle for 80? Where would she make up the missing 70?
Her thinking was entirely reasonable. Song Weiyang, however, just let out a scoff. "What a nerve."
Lu Feng and He Huihui had both been top performers in previous instances. They'd swallowed their pride and approached Ji Ning's pair precisely because they badly wanted first place.
In high-risk instances, having allies made things much safer—that was why they offered this as an exchange.
But the moment they proposed it, they were met with zero room for negotiation and got shut down directly by Song Weiyang.
Lu Feng's face darkened. Gritting his teeth, he said in a low voice, "You think just because you got lucky the first two rounds, you'll coast to first forever? You can't rely on luck for the rest of the assessments." He swept a glance over Ji Ning's pure, seemingly inexperienced look and laughed. "What do you have to compete with us?"
With that, Lu Feng stood up, wrapped an arm around the curvy He Huihui, and walked off.
His words were harsh, but they carried a dose of reality. Ji Ning and Song Weiyang's previous two first-place finishes really had an element of luck.
But as the assessments deepened, they would increasingly emphasize sexual performance.
In her whole life, Ji Ning had only been intimate with her first boyfriend a couple of times, and then with Xing Ye and Song Weiyang.
With both of them, she had been the passive one, simply enjoying it. If she continued being passive, she might really not be able to compete with the far more sexually experienced He Huihui.
When Song Weiyang saw the smile vanish from Ji Ning's face, he was positively fuming.
He leaned closer and waved a hand in front of her eyes. "Don't let it get to you. I won't let them surpass us."
Ji Ning tugged the corner of her mouth up slightly and gave Song Weiyang a smile.
He really was wonderful, but she had to work harder too. If all she got was second place, she'd be too ashamed to even message Brother Xing Ye when she got back to the Wooden Cabin.
