Chapter 194: Tycoon Town (10)
Ji Ning ended up sprawled limply over the table, only to be scooped up by Jiang Ting and leaned against his chest as he kissed her. Her hand was still held and kneaded in his grip, and he seemed reluctant to let go.
Because Jiang Ting was listed as the first priority, he was rational enough not to kiss her for long before telling her everything he needed to share.
"The twelfth space had a spider the size of a sedan. The second time I rolled a 4, the sixteenth space had a gorilla with three heads and six arms."
Ji Ning hurriedly told him everything she had gathered from Qin Yanshu and what she herself had encountered as well.
In the brief moment it took to exchange a few words, the indicator light on the wall lit up.
Jiang Ting let go of Ji Ning and ruffled her hair. "Take care of yourself."
Then he threw the dice and vanished while gazing at her with a smile.
Ji Ning was left alone in the room. She looked at the items he had left for her and realized he had never actually wanted her items; he had just wanted her to kiss him of her own accord. It was rather funny.
Jiang Ting had used one food item at the sixteenth space, so including the item from this space, there were only two items left for her, one of which was a glass marble.
She now held a collection of items from three people: glass marble x2, a battery, a throwing dart, talisman paper, and bread.
With so many things, Ji Ning's pockets were almost too full to hold them all. She felt like a bad woman who went around scamming people out of their items everywhere she went.
During the wait, Ji Ning remembered that the system had given three message notifications while she and Jiang Ting had been going at it.
She opened them and was slightly startled by a new message.
【Player No. 2 PK failed. Complete death.】
【Player No. 7 Space challenge failed. Complete death.】
【Player No. 8 Space challenge failed. Complete death.】
Ji Ning recalled that when Player No. 3 had died, it had also announced that No. 3's weapons and items would go to No. 8, but this time there was no such announcement. Did that mean that the PK between No. 2 and another player wasn't triggered by "Love and Kill"?
It made sense when she thought about it. When some players encountered each other, they wouldn't wait until after clearing a space to make a move. It was entirely possible to take advantage of someone's vulnerability, especially in survival-type spaces.
She just didn't know whether No. 2 had been the victim or the instigator.
Jiang Ting had rolled a 3 this time, moving to the twenty-fourth space.
He had been first. Ji Ning had originally been eleventh, but because four players had been eliminated in between, she was now seventh. The waiting time this round was shorter than before.
She stowed all her items, keeping the throwing dart in her hand as usual.
This time, Ji Ning rolled a 2, heading to the twenty-third space.
The twenty-first space was a puzzle. What would the twenty-third be?
The guessing seemed to make the waiting time pass faster. Soon, Ji Ning completed her space transition and found herself on a small boat.
The little wooden boat drifted on the surface of the sea, and the ocean's boundaries were far greater than any space she had visited before.
Afraid of falling, she clung tightly to the edge of the boat and peered down into the azure water. Deep in the sea, she saw a very large, dark mass. She didn't know what it was.
Just then, out of the corner of her eye, Ji Ning saw a flash of white light at the stern. Player No. 11, a male player, had also jumped into this space.
He had clearly not encountered anyone before and was very surprised at first. Then, perhaps recalling what had happened with No. 3 and No. 8, his slightly furrowed brow relaxed, and a murderous glint flashed in his eyes.
Ji Ning guessed that No. 11 must have seen her holding a plastic magic wand earlier and thought she was an easy target, deciding to strike first.
But the gurgling sounds beneath the sea were growing louder by the moment. Danger could arrive at any time. Having No. 11 attack her now was not a good thing at all.
Besides, he was no match for her. Even if she won the PK now, she wouldn't be able to take his items.
Ji Ning quickly made her choice and decided to stall first, waiting until after passing the survival trial before making a move.
When the time came, as long as she could avoid a direct confrontation and stall for a few minutes until the magic wand finished charging, she could win without a doubt.
She hid the glowing magic wand behind her back to prevent No. 11 from sensing something was off and trying to ambush her while she fought monsters later.
"Hold on, don't be rash! Even if you kill me now, it's useless. Didn't you see the announcement just now? No. 2 died and their weapons and items weren't transferred. You have to kill someone after successfully clearing the space to get their stuff."
As Ji Ning spoke, a colossal creature emerged from the depths of the sea. She looked over and saw a purple octopus with tentacles thicker than the roots of a fifty-year-old tree.
Even more terrifying was the bottom of the octopus's head—the mouth at the center of its eight tentacles. As the tentacles rose, they revealed a ring of extremely sharp, interlocking teeth.
The giant octopus flailed its tentacles menacingly as it moved toward the small boat, its bottom mouth opening and closing, looking eager to devour a human.
The answer was revealed. The twenty-third space was a survival space with a mutated creature.
Ji Ning had thought that her reasonable persuasion, combined with this terrifying behemoth, would make No. 11 listen to her words and change his mind, dealing with the monster first.
But he didn't take in a single word. Gripping his dagger, he made as if to charge at her.
In a split second, two octopus tentacles swept over. Ji Ning rolled across the floor of the boat to avoid the point of impact, and at the same time hurled the throwing dart in her hand viciously at No. 11's forehead.
No. 11 tilted his head, but the spiral blade of the dart still embedded itself into the side of his forehead.
The intense pain made him stagger, clutching his head and unable to see the danger clearly.
In this way, No. 11 became the easiest prey imaginable. The octopus tentacles wrapped around him with unerring precision and lifted him straight toward its mouth.
In an instant, No. 11's legs were bitten off at the thighs by the ghastly fangs—as efficiently as a person biting into a sausage.
Ji Ning didn't just stand there dumbly either.
Taking advantage of the moment the giant octopus posed no threat to her, she unhesitatingly raised the magic wand, aimed it at the creature, and pressed the button.
The rainbow-like beam of light lit up once more, shining upon the octopus and extending infinitely, enveloping it completely.
Ji Ning's heart pounded violently. She didn't know just how effective the magic wand would be against an octopus.
Very quickly, the adorable magic wand showed Ji Ning through practical action that it was invincible.
Such a huge octopus, struggling within the rainbow light, vanished as well.
The bisected body of No. 11 fell from the air, splashing into the sea and dyeing the water red.
Along with three rewards that burst from the octopus and landed on the boat: a "Chicken Leg," a "Music Box," and a "Slingshot."
Ji Ning remembered she had a battery, and since there were correlations between rewards, she chose the music box.
Afterward, the system did not issue a player death notification. Instead, a mechanical broadcast sounded within the space. It seemed No. 11 was still alive.
"I choose kill." Ji Ning sat in the little boat and watched as No. 11 struggled to swim over using his arms. The horrific sight made her face scrunch up.
Since arriving in the Survival Game, apart from killing the living dead, she had never attacked another player. Even though it pained her, she had no other choice. Not to mention that No. 11 had refused to heed her warning and had tried to strike first.
Perhaps because No. 11 didn't answer, the mechanical voice eventually announced: "Both parties disagree. 'Kill' is enforced. Act immediately, or both will be eliminated."
By this point, how could No. 11 possibly be a match for Ji Ning? She didn't even need to run and hide while waiting for the magic wand's cooldown. She just had to keep her distance from him to avoid any mishap.
Seeing No. 11 swimming closer, Ji Ning picked up the oar in the boat with both hands and prodded at him, refusing to let him get near the side of the boat.
No. 11 pleaded in despair, begging Ji Ning to spare his life.
But was that even possible? Of course not.
Once the magic wand had finished charging, No. 11 vanished without a trace under the punishment of the rainbow light.
His items, like the giant octopus's rewards, fell onto the boat in a parabolic arc.
