Chapter 255: Ghost Marriage Tales (8)
"Ji Ning, when they get here, I'll go out and hold them off. You run first."
Shen Yu withdrew his gaze from the window crack and made the arrangement in a low voice.
His back was to her as he looked down, fastened his pants, and adjusted his still-engorged erection. He then took a scythe from the wall, gripped the blade, and shook it firmly to confirm it was secure, making every preparation.
"Okay. Teacher, please be extremely careful." Ji Ning agreed, crouching down to pull her shoelaces tight and even tied them in double knots, terrified of stepping on a lace while running, falling, and being unable to get up.
Hearing "teacher" again, Shen Yu looked at Ji Ning, wanting to say something but not knowing how to begin. Feeling it was unnecessary to speak, he ultimately remained silent.
The young woman didn't seem to be dwelling on it, which was good for her. It was also a clever and calm way to handle things.
However, after telling her teacher to be careful, Ji Ning lifted her head and swept a glance at Shen Yu.
She was crouching, and without excessively raising her head, her gaze could reach no higher than Shen Yu's chest. Therefore, directly in her line of sight was the still-bulging front of Shen Yu's pants...
As if her eyes had been scalded, Ji Ning hurriedly looked down before Shen Yu noticed.
She had barely managed to calm herself with the reasoning that "Teacher Shen only did that with me to help me escape danger," but with one look at Shen Yu, her mind involuntarily recalled his tensed thighs and that low, suppressed groan.
It was hard to describe what it felt like when Shen Yu had clasped her waist and thrust in. Ji Ning felt as if she were delirious with a fever; the reaction in her mind was even stronger than her body's.
Like tasting a medicine you clearly know is poisonous and can't be taken, only to discover it's actually sweet...
The sound of menacing footsteps approaching from afar snapped Ji Ning out of her daze.
At the same moment, without any hesitation, Shen Yu gripped his scythe, opened the door, and charged out.
The doorway was so small; if they let themselves be cornered, it would be difficult for Ji Ning to escape.
The turning point had come. There was no time to lose. Ji Ning immediately stood up and followed Shen Yu out the door.
The people coming to catch her this time were armed with either clubs or hoes. Seeing that Shen Yu's intention to protect Ji Ning was unmistakable, they rushed at the pair menacingly.
"Run!" This was the best moment. Shen Yu shouted decisively.
Ji Ning didn't hesitate much. She bolted, heading straight for the mountain. She wanted to flee this place, to escape the feudal and backward Jiyu Mountain.
Just before running out of the cave dwelling entrance, Ji Ning saw that several room doors were locked from the outside. The female players inside, hearing the commotion, were banging on the doors with loud thuds, having clearly been locked up in secret after failing to seize the right moment.
She couldn't worry about all that. As she ran past the door, Ji Ning only had time to leave a sentence: "When there are fewer people later, quickly find a way to get out!"
After that, she took a detour away from the path closest to the main cave dwellings on the slope to avoid being cut off, and sprinted forcefully toward the remote, high-slope woods.
As she ran, Ji Ning looked back and saw that Shen Yu was also fighting while retreating, having even snatched a hoe from an NPC's hands and following her escape route. She finally relaxed and focused single-mindedly on accelerating forward.
After all, the people chasing her were all men; she had to widen the distance more and more to be safe enough.
Ji Ning knew that in a place like this, all the locals were in cahoots. So whenever she passed someone else's cave dwelling, she kept far from the doorway.
In fact, her choice was correct, because the pursuing NPCs behind her were shouting as they ran: "Don't let that woman get away!"
People kept joining the chase, and people kept being stopped, injured by the hoe Shen Yu swung. Their escape seemed urgent and messy, but their advantage was gradually stabilizing.
Ahead on the path lay rugged, deep mountain trails and numerous caves from abandoned dwellings of years past. As long as they could shake off the line of sight of the pursuing NPCs, they could play a game of hide-and-seek on the big mountain.
Ji Ning ran until a rusty, metallic taste of blood filled her throat, almost to the point of suffocation.
She looked back, saw no movement behind her, continued running for a while, spotted a hidden concave slope, and jumped into it. Then she carefully poked her head out to observe the situation behind her.
After waiting for about several minutes, Shen Yu finally appeared in her line of sight. And behind him were only distant shouts—no people!
Ji Ning decisively waved at him, signaling for him to hide there with her.
Shen Yu understood. He lightened his footsteps without slowing down, and even used his foot in a stolen moment to erase the faint footprints Ji Ning had left behind.
Immediately after, Shen Yu flipped over with a leap and landed beside Ji Ning.
The two of them carefully followed the small cliff slope around to the other side, putting themselves completely in a blind spot from the NPCs' view.
Not long after, the NPCs finally caught up, huffing and puffing.
Seeing no one, their gazes swept the area, and then they swarmed in a rush toward caves that were obvious hiding spots.
Seeing the danger was lifted, Ji Ning's heart, which had been in her throat, finally settled back down. She let out an extremely faint, relieved breath.
Shen Yu also let out a long sigh of relief, inwardly noting that Ji Ning had found a rather good hiding place.
He had held off so many people, and Ji Ning had been very worried about whether he was injured.
Now that she had a moment, she examined Shen Yu's upper body, lower body, chest, and back like a patient, discovering that aside from a blow to his arm that left a gray mark, there were no other abnormalities.
In a moment of urgency, Ji Ning directly reached out and rolled up Shen Yu's sleeve. Seeing an extra bruise on his solid arm, her heart ached, but she was thankful that at least there was no bleeding wound.
Then, she looked up at Shen Yu and said to him seriously: "Teacher, thank you for helping me escape. Once it's convenient to move around at night, I'll help you complete your mission too. Let's go burn down the Yang family's cave dwelling!"
She had been calculating this the entire time she was running.
Shen Yu's mission was to "stop the ghost marriage," but he had only stopped Ji Ning's ghost marriage so far; it hadn't provided substantial help to his mission.
If they could agree on a plan and destroy the main NPC's lair in one fell swoop, throwing them into chaos, then this ghost marriage couldn't be arranged, could it?
Shen Yu stared fixedly at Ji Ning's earnest face, hesitating yet nodding firmly at her.
