Chapter 20
"It should've been right around here that she touched it... strange, why doesn't it feel like anything when I do it myself?"
Early in the morning, Gu Sijiu sat downstairs, straining to reach behind her neck, probing around for something. Comfort was a pleasurable sensation, and Gu Sijiu had experienced it firsthand just the day before. Song Jinzhi's hand had been cool, and resting it on the back of her neck had sent wave after wave of coolness and light tingles through her. The intensity of that tickle had been just right, transforming into a numbing, deeply pleasant comfort.
Gu Sijiu knew the other woman had touched her gland, but now that she tried it on herself, she couldn't summon that same delightful, comfortable sensation from the night before. Puzzled, she did a bit of research and learned that Alphas and Omegas with high compatibility naturally bring each other comfort through touch and caress, let alone when one is stroking something as intimate as the other's gland.
Once she'd figured it out, Gu Sijiu stopped her aimless explorations. Right then, Song Jinzhi, fully dressed and neatly put together, came down the stairs. She hadn't expected to find Gu Sijiu in the living room at this hour, and they both paused, slightly taken aback at the sight of each other. This was the first time Gu Sijiu had seen Song Jinzhi in proper business attire. Unlike her usual dresses, in a suit she radiated an air of polished, capable beauty.
For an Omega, Song Jinzhi was quite tall, absolutely the perfect example of "dressed lean, undressed curvy." Her figure was slender and willowy, her waist narrow, yet her chest was full and round. She wore a light grey women's suit jacket over a silk navy blouse, the collar loose and accented with a platinum necklace. A pencil skirt wrapped her pert rear, and her legs, sheathed in black stockings, were slender and long.
The whole look was formal yet far from rigid, the black stockings lending it a subtly ascetic and lascivious air. Running her eyes over Song Jinzhi, Gu Sijiu almost wanted to wolf whistle. She vaguely suspected that Jinzhi's personality was the closet coquettish type, after all, why else would she wear a silk blouse and black stockings just to go to work? Wasn't that just criminally sexy? Of course, thoughts like these were ones Gu Sijiu only dared to keep safely to herself.
Song Jinzhi did her best to deflect Gu Sijiu's gaze, though she was secretly sizing her up in turn as well. The woman seemed to be in a good mood today. She was wearing a short black dress, barefoot on the floor, her pale toes resting against the white tiles. For an Alpha with a military career, Gu Sijiu took ridiculously good care of herself. Not a single scar marred her body; her skin was fair and smooth all over, making that deep cherry red long hair a perfect match for her. When Song Jinzhi saw her look over and flash an ambiguous, downright lewd smile, she had no idea why the word "lewd" was the first one to come to mind. Probably because Gu Sijiu's features were just that bewitchingly alluring, so whatever she did, Song Jinzhi inevitably found it lewd.
She thought back to the night before, when this woman had leaned against her, using that voice dripping with a sickly sweet, wanton charm to ask her to keep stroking her gland. At the time, Song Jinzhi had been utterly bewitched and had indeed reached out and touched it.
She understood perfectly well how intimate an act it was for an Alpha and Omega to caress each other's glands. It was a sensation second only to touching the first sexual organ. Yet at that moment, she'd been completely spellbound, unable to stop herself from stroking the gland at the back of Gu Sijiu's neck, simply because she wanted to hear her call her name, to hear that beautiful voice of hers.
Honestly... what in the world came over me? Song Jinzhi thought to herself. It was precisely for this reason that she had deliberately gotten up extra early tonight to avoid running into Gu Sijiu, never suspecting the woman would also be up so early. Feeling deeply awkward, Song Jinzhi just hoped to get through a calm, uneventful breakfast and make her escape. Clearly, Gu Sijiu was unwilling to let her off the hook so easily.
"Wooden Face, I slept poorly last night. My neck's kind of sore. Think maybe I also need someone to give it a good rub?"
Gu Sijiu sat primly across from Song Jinzhi, deliberately pushing her hair aside and letting her words hang heavy with implication. Her constant, insinuating glances were practically a blazing neon sign pointing at Song Jinzhi to come over and rub her neck. Song Jinzhi knew full well her concerns lay far from any genuine neck pain, but she was dragged back into thoughts of the previous night regardless, her face heating up slightly.
"If your neck is bothering you, I can recommend a good massage therapy clinic for you." Song Jinzhi was purposefully playing dumb. She bowed her head to nibble her breakfast, speaking softly. Gu Sijiu refused to believe Song Jinzhi didn't understand her meaning. Seeing her so deliberately evade the issue, Gu Sijiu just clicked her tongue and didn't bring up the neck again, though for the rest of breakfast she kept shooting glances Song Jinzhi's way every now and then, her gaze clearly zeroing in on her neck again and making Song Jinzhi feel a bit uneasy under the scrutiny.
She ate just a few more hurried bites, then rushed out the door to escape that stare and head to work.
That evening, Song Jinzhi was to attend a welcome party her colleagues at the company had organized for her. She felt that being away for just a few months hardly warranted such a fuss, but her staff had insisted, her parents had agreed, and so a hotel had been booked for a simple celebration. As the guest of honor, Song Jinzhi couldn't avoid being toasted repeatedly. Her tolerance for alcohol was average, and between that and the overwhelming enthusiasm of the company staff, an hour in she was dead drunk, practically insensible.
After finishing a TV drama in the living room, Gu Sijiu noticed that Song Jinzhi still hadn't returned even though it was past ten in the evening. Not knowing if she was busy working overtime, Gu Sijiu hesitated to make the call and ask out of the blue. She felt, after all, that she and Song Jinzhi were nothing to each other. The other woman detested her, so Gu Sijiu wasn't exactly eager to go and thrust her concern on her uninvited. She mulled it over and was just about to shower and go to sleep when the communicator on the table suddenly lit up. Seeing it was Gu Nancheng calling, Gu Sijiu hurriedly picked it up.
"Father, why aren't you resting? It's so late," Gu Sijiu asked softly, only to see Gu Nancheng, on the other end of the line, sweep his gaze over her surroundings, his expression turning icy cold.
"Why are you still at home? Are you not aware that Xiao Jin was attending a company banquet tonight? She's an Omega, and you were just going to let her come home drunk by herself? Put on some decent clothes and go pick her up at once."
It had never occurred to Gu Sijiu that Gu Nancheng would call for an inspection. She agreed aloud, saying she'd go immediately, but inwardly she felt a bit unwilling. For one, Song Jinzhi hadn't mentioned a single word about any banquet tonight. And then there was the painfully awkward state of their relationship, whether Song Jinzhi even wanted her to come pick her up was an entirely different matter. Yet since Gu Nancheng had given the order, Gu Sijiu figured she had no choice but to make the trip. If anything did happen to Song Jinzhi, the blame would somehow end up landing squarely on her own shoulders.
Gu Sijiu changed her clothes, and considering there would likely be a fair number of Song Jinzhi's colleagues there, she did her makeup and stepped into a pair of high heels, emerging the picture of a gorgeous, alluring beauty. She set her car's autopilot for Song Jinzhi's hotel. By the time Gu Sijiu arrived, the banquet was drawing to a close. Song Jinzhi had been plied with so much liquor she had long since lost any ability to see straight.
Song Jinzhi had known she was bound to get drunk tonight and had already arranged for Jennifer to see her home. But the person who came to get her didn't feel like Jennifer. It was an incredibly soft embrace. Leaning into it felt wonderfully comfortable, and the scent was a bit unfamiliar yet also so very familiar at the same time. Unable to help herself, Song Jinzhi nuzzled deeper into that embrace, before sensing the other person's body tense up slightly.
"Ma'am, and you are?" Most of the employees present had only ever seen Gu Sijiu the one time on the night of the engagement banquet. The Gu Sijiu then and the Gu Sijiu now were not the same person occupying the same shell; the impression they left and the style of dress they wore were entirely different. The staff present, Jennifer included, saw only a stunningly dressed Alpha stride over to Song Jinzhi and pull her into her arms. None of them were sure who this person was, and they certainly weren't about to hand her over to a stranger without confirming.
"Hello, everyone. I'm Wooden... Jinzhi's fiancee. Gu Sijiu."
"Major General Gu? You're Major General Gu?"
When Gu Sijiu introduced herself, quite a few faces registered sheer disbelief, for her appearance right now was dramatically different from anything in their memory. On that engagement banquet night, Gu Sijiu had worn a white suit, looking cold, aloof, and distinctly unapproachable.
But this Alpha now holding Song Jinzhi wore a long, pale purple dress with high heels, her slightly curled hair tips framing that bewitchingly gorgeous face and making her look unspeakably sultry and sexy. Especially given the effortless allure in her every gesture and motion, were it not for her scent making it unmistakably clear she was an Alpha, she could have easily passed for an Omega. Even Jennifer, who had encountered Gu Sijiu multiple times, was unable to recognize her at first glance.
"That's right. What, has Jinzhi never mentioned me to any of you?" Seeing a round of "who is this person exactly" expressions, Gu Sijiu lifted her head and smiled, taking the opportunity to pull Song Jinzhi more firmly into her arms and, in a show of calculated, ostentatious tenderness, let her lean more comfortably. She was well aware that a person like Song Jinzhi would never bring her up in front of colleagues, but she couldn't possibly be that utterly unmentionable, could she?
"N-No... it's just that you... you've changed so much, Major General Gu..." Jennifer murmured, lowering her voice. Only after studying Gu Sijiu's features more carefully did she confirm that this was indeed Major General Gu, just dressed in a different style that made her even more beautiful.
"It's because Jinzhi said she liked it, so I wear it this way now. You know how she is, always making these little unreasonable requests. I really can't do anything about her."
Gu Sijiu smiled with an overwhelming tenderness. Her alluring, peach blossom eyes were slightly narrowed, her brow carrying a combination of lazy ease and casual charm. She lowered her head to gently stroke Song Jinzhi's hair, the picture of doting affection. Song Jinzhi, sensing a stronger presence of the scent she found so pleasant, was robbed of all judgment by the alcohol. Acting on pure instinct, she nuzzled into that wonderfully fragrant embrace like a tiny kitten.
"Wine..." Song Jinzhi murmured under her breath. Hearing this, Gu Sijiu reached out, touched her cheek, and gave it a firm pinch.
Gu Sijiu had excellent command over the force she used, capable of causing a sting of pain without leaving a visible red mark. Feeling Song Jinzhi tremble slightly at the pinch even in her drunken stupor, Gu Sijiu's smile turned even more radiant.
"Jinzhi, you're drunk, sweetheart. Be good, no more for you. How about I get you something even tastier when we're back home, hmm?"
Gu Sijiu coaxed her the way one coddles a child, the ends of her sentences trailing off so delicately that every phrase left a lingering echo that felt richly tantalizing.
"Mm... then no more." The drunk version of Song Jinzhi was a rare and precious cuteness, practically insanely obedient. Seeing how docile she was being, Gu Sijiu patted her head, smoothed back the tousled strands of hair framing her face, and helped her to her feet.
"Jinzhi's drunk, I'll take her home first." With that, Gu Sijiu let her eyelids droop halfway as she cast a look in Song Jinzhi's direction, a look soft and tender yet threaded with just a few hints of sly, wicked mischief and allure. The people seated at the table just watched blankly as the two of them held each other, only snapping out of it after Gu Sijiu had already steadied Song Jinzhi and led her away.
"Wha... what did I just witness? So our President Song and Major General Gu are actually this lovey dovey?" "Right? President Song is always so ruthlessly efficient at work, but in front of Major General Gu she's just such a total softie." The colleagues murmured, slightly dazed. Song Jinzhi was normally a model of crisp, decisive corporate leadership in the office, yet cuddled up in Gu Sijiu's hold she had essentially transformed into an entirely different person.
As a few of them drifted in their thoughts between Song Jinzhi and Gu Sijiu, they felt their hearts flutter all over again. They simply found Gu Sijiu's beauty almost too overwhelming; she was so gorgeous that she hardly seemed like a proper Alpha. That bone deep allure, the fully matured sultry charm radiating from her every gesture, had practically mesmerized the Betas at their table, and Alphas from other tables all couldn't help stealing glances at Gu Sijiu too. If they hadn't already known Gu Sijiu was an Alpha, and President Song's wife to boot, someone would no doubt have already come over to try their luck.
Outside, Gu Sijiu helped Song Jinzhi into the car and looked down at the woman who had, upon entering, immediately curled herself into a tiny ball and laid her head on her lap to sleep. Thinking back on the false picture of conjugal bliss she had just performed, Gu Sijiu felt a surge of self satisfaction. She bowed her head to study the docile, well behaved person from a moment ago, then called to mind the cold, rigid Song Jinzhi from that same morning. Unable to resist, she reached down and pinched Song Jinzhi's cheek. This time she didn't bother controlling the force at all, and firmly squeezed until that one cheek turned bright red. Eyeing the bright red left cheek, Gu Sijiu gave it a moment's thought and, deciding she should be fair about it, pinched the other one equally red as well.
"Wooden Face, you really are a lot cuter when you're drunk."
