Chapter 30
"Jennifer, send these documents to the distribution department tonight. I'm leaving first." Song Jinzhi finished handing over her tasks, turned, and left the company. Not long after, her car stopped in front of Gu Sijiu's house. Song Jinzhi walked in with a trace of anticipation but failed to catch the familiar scent at the doorway, which left her feeling somewhat disappointed. She looked up and, as expected, saw the housekeeper had just finished preparing dinner and was about to leave, while Gu Sijiu lay on the sofa. A faint aroma of alcohol lingered in the room.
"Why are you back so early today?" Gu Sijiu glanced at Song Jinzhi and spoke lazily, a throw pillow cradled in her arms. She kneaded the corner of the pillow. Gu Sijiu felt Song Jinzhi looked considerably more beautiful right now, not that she was usually unattractive, but she was never quite this beautiful ordinarily. Even her gaze seemed much gentler. Gu Sijiu chalked this perception up to a tipsy illusion after a little wine.
"Nothing much at the company, so I came back." Song Jinzhi took off her high heels. After seeing the housekeeper leave, she went upstairs to shower. Warm water from the showerhead cascaded over her body, washing away the day's fatigue. There was one thing Song Jinzhi refused to admit: the reason she came back so early was actually that she had been looking forward to Gu Sijiu cooking dinner herself tonight.
After their cold war ended, their relationship had improved somewhat. Song Jinzhi had discovered that Gu Sijiu did have merits, at least in the kitchen, she was impossible to dislike. Regrettably, Gu Sijiu hadn't cooked again since then. On the rare occasions she did, it was only pastries and small biscuits for snacking. Song Jinzhi didn't care for snacks, but seeing the pastries Gu Sijiu made herself and catching their scent stirred an urge to try them. Yet she couldn't bring herself to shamelessly ask Gu Sijiu for treats. Such a thing was even harder than apologizing; Song Jinzhi's temperament simply wouldn't allow it.
She finished her shower, went downstairs for dinner, and by then Gu Sijiu had already seated herself across the table, leaning lazily against her chair, looking thoroughly exhausted. Song Jinzhi caught her scent, stronger than usual, and glanced up at the air purifier. The machine was operating normally, yet Gu Sijiu's pheromones had grown very intense. Song Jinzhi breathed it in; she didn't dislike the scent, but she couldn't continue eating immersed in it.
She looked up at Gu Sijiu, about to say something, when she saw the other woman take only a few bites before returning to the sofa to lie down. Song Jinzhi had a vague sense that something was off with Gu Sijiu, as if she were physically unwell. She hesitated, but ultimately didn't ask. Gu Sijiu was an Alpha, and Alphas were generally robust; minor ailments meant nothing. Besides, Song Jinzhi felt their relationship hadn't yet reached the point where she needed to show concern for her.
"Wooden Face, your scent is so fragrant." Gu Sijiu lay on the sofa, eyes half lidded as she watched the person eating over there. She felt her mind growing muddled and heavy, as if a roller coaster were crashing wildly around inside, shaking and spinning. And most importantly, Song Jinzhi's presence had become overwhelmingly intense. Her aura, her scent, her appearance, every detail rooted Gu Sijiu's gaze in place.
She thought Song Jinzhi was so beautiful; even her cold expression had turned endearing. Gu Sijiu felt she must have gone mad to think this way. She was desperately, urgently craving contact with Song Jinzhi, nothing excessive, just sitting beside her would be enough to feel satisfied. Gu Sijiu forcefully suppressed the urge to draw closer to Song Jinzhi. Her groin began to throb restlessly at that moment, the sensitive nub faintly trembling, growing slick and swollen, achingly aware of the gauze of her underwear chafing against it with pleasurable friction.
"Don't you think the weather's getting hotter and hotter?" Gu Sijiu murmured dazedly. She hadn't wanted to say something so pointless; she simply wanted to talk to Song Jinzhi. As soon as she finished speaking, Gu Sijiu noticed her voice had turned hoarse, and her throat was parched and thirsty. She was about to get up and pour a glass of water when she saw Song Jinzhi already rising and heading upstairs.
Watching her retreating figure, Gu Sijiu's eyes landed on the nape of her neck, then slowly traveled downward, taking in her hips and legs wrapped in long pants. As if possessed, Gu Sijiu couldn't control her steps and followed. She knew she should go back to her own room to rest, not trail behind Song Jinzhi. But her legs seemed to have a mind of their own, and she actually followed Song Jinzhi all the way to her bedroom.
"Do you need something?" Song Jinzhi frowned slightly as she saw Gu Sijiu follow her in. This was the first time Gu Sijiu had barged in without her permission. She had a vague sense that Gu Sijiu was very much not herself, and her own body had begun acting strangely as well. Just moments ago, fully aware that Gu Sijiu was following, she had inexplicably found herself unwilling to drive the woman away. The other's scent was far too pleasant, stirring a strange heat and restlessness through Song Jinzhi's freshly showered body. When her gland started trembling, Song Jinzhi finally realized what was happening.
Heat, not her own heat, but Gu Sijiu's. Most Alphas didn't experience heat cycles as frequently as Omegas; some had them every six months, others only once a year. In all the time they had lived together, Song Jinzhi had never encountered Gu Sijiu's heat before, and naturally had no idea what warning signs to expect from an Alpha's heat. Earlier, she had only assumed Gu Sijiu was drunk.
Now, watching Gu Sijiu unconsciously walk toward her, an inexplicable fear made Song Jinzhi retreat. She could feel it: the closer Gu Sijiu came, the more violently her gland trembled. Her groin was uncontrollably overflowing with signals that craved affection. Her Alpha was drawing near, the thought flashed through her mind, making Song Jinzhi's legs weak and unsteady.
"Gu Sijiu, don't come any closer." Song Jinzhi's face was cold. Despite her body burning with heat, she forced herself to stay composed. Gu Sijiu drew near and abruptly embraced her. An Alpha in heat ran a very high body temperature, second only to an Omega out of control during heat. Gu Sijiu clung to her like a small warming stove, parting her legs and rubbing that place against Song Jinzhi's leg.
Song Jinzhi supposed she should be grateful for Gu Sijiu's physical defect; otherwise, she would surely have been disgusted.
But disgust was only one aspect, her panic hadn't lessened in the slightest. Gu Sijiu was in heat. If she lost all reason, she might forcibly mark her. As she felt Gu Sijiu's lips slowly nuzzling against her neck, the sensation was something Song Jinzhi didn't reject; in fact, it felt so good she nearly responded. Song Jinzhi loathed herself for this state, and even more, could not accept what Gu Sijiu was becoming right now.
"Song Jinzhi... you... you smell so good... I don't know what's happening to me, I'm so hot... it aches down there." Gu Sijiu unconsciously rubbed her groin against Song Jinzhi's leg, letting out a series of helpless, coy, and alluring pants beside her ear. The sound made Song Jinzhi's scalp prickle, yet not from revulsion, rather, she actually found Gu Sijiu's voice somewhat enticing at that moment.
To prevent an irreparable mistake, Song Jinzhi summoned all her strength, shoved Gu Sijiu away, turned, grabbed the stun gun from under her pillow, and fired a shot into her shoulder. The powerful electric current released by the stun gun instantly paralyzed Gu Sijiu's body and nerves. She whimpered once, lost consciousness, and collapsed directly to the floor. Seeing that she had hit the ground headfirst, Song Jinzhi reached down to check for breath beneath her nose. Finding she was still breathing, she hurriedly fled the room.
She had no mind to check whether Gu Sijiu had injured anything in the fall, much less any goodwill to help an Alpha who had just attempted indecent advances onto the bed. Alphas had strong bodies anyway, lying on the floor for a night wouldn't matter. Song Jinzhi went to another guest room, locked the door firmly behind her, and leaned against it, panting heavily.
Her eyes grew moist from the earlier contact with Gu Sijiu. She shifted her body slightly and then realized that her groin was sticky and slick; her underwear was surely soaked through. A blush spread across Song Jinzhi's face. She wanted to inject a suppressant, but then remembered that all the suppressants were in her own room, the room where Gu Sijiu now lay. No matter what, Song Jinzhi refused to risk going back there.
She stripped off her clothes and stepped into the bathroom, intending to soak in a cold bath to wash away the heat coursing through her body. She had only been stirred into arousal by Gu Sijiu; this wasn't a true heat. As her body submerged in the cold water, the chill made Song Jinzhi involuntarily curl up. She hastily cleaned everywhere that needed cleaning, and only emerged once her body no longer felt quite so unbearable.
That night, Song Jinzhi was on edge, utterly unable to sleep. The lingering fear in her heart made rest impossible, and the danger Gu Sijiu now represented only deepened Song Jinzhi's agitation. What she dwelled on wasn't merely the matter of tomorrow, but the future stretching beyond it. She knew she could dodge this once tonight, but she could never avoid it forever. Even if Gu Sijiu didn't initiate any relations with her, both her own parents and Gu Sijiu's parents would force the issue.
Once they married, they would have to consummate the union. She would be marked by Gu Sijiu, share her bed, and carry her child. Thinking of this, Song Jinzhi felt her body, which had just soaked in cold water, turn even colder. She curled into herself and held tight. In moments like this, embracing herself was the only way she could find even a sliver of warmth.
Song Jinzhi stayed awake until dawn, eyes wide open. The sleepless night left her dizzy and muddled; combined with the tension and exhaustion of her nerves, even her stomach began to ache dully. Song Jinzhi didn't dare leave the room. She was afraid Gu Sijiu might suddenly attack. By this time, Gu Sijiu, lying on the floor, was gradually coming to.
She opened her eyes, and the very first thing she registered was pain. Her entire body ached with a dull soreness, especially her head. It wasn't just the inside of her skull; the outside also throbbed with a burning, stabbing pain. Gu Sijiu sat up in confusion and discovered she had been lying not on a bed, but on the floor of Song Jinzhi's room. She raised a hand to rub her head and inadvertently touched the swelling on her forehead, pain instantly bringing tears to her eyes. Gu Sijiu didn't have time to piece together what had happened; she hurried to her feet and stood before the mirror.
Her hair was a tangled mess. And on her forehead, an enormous bump had swollen up, at least three centimeters in diameter, red and bulging, hanging right there on her brow. Gu Sijiu didn't need to guess who was responsible.
