Erotic Survival Game - Chapter 338
Chapter 338: Deathtrap Hospital (11)
Just as trash cans repurposed as treasure chests were rare, so too were rooms with power outlets. The ICU ward had no sockets. Ji Ning and the other three searched room by room, finally finding power only when they reached the far end of the corridor on the other side of the ICU.
By her estimate, they charged the chainsaw for about ten minutes before its charging indicator light went dark.
"From the moment we spotted the killer and got chased until the chainsaw ran out of power, the interval was more than ten minutes but probably less than half an hour. Maybe twenty minutes," Qin Yanshu summarized.
So, after triggering a brand-new Chainsaw Killer, as long as you held out for over twenty minutes and waited for its chainsaw to die, you had a chance to escape the pursuit.
Ji Ning watched Shen Yu press the chainsaw's switch to confirm it worked, then turn it off again. She murmured, "I think that time window is very likely just a cooldown period. Whether you use it or not, it needs to be recharged after twenty minutes. So we need to keep an eye on the time and avoid danger when we're nearing that twenty-minute mark."
"Right. Even with the chainsaw, we still have to be careful. Not just of the killer NPCs. Other players might have gotten chainsaws too." Shen Yu stood up and was the first out the door. Since only he could use this chainsaw, it was only natural for him to take point.
His bringing this up happened to remind everyone of something.
"It's too quiet."
"Why hasn't there been any sound at all for so long?"
Ji Ning looked through the window at the building opposite. She couldn't see a single player, nor the towering figure of a killer.
"Three possibilities. One, the other players are all doing tasks. Two, the five people besides us have formed an alliance. Three, this alliance has also killed the remaining killers." Jiang Ting added, "Perhaps including the one downstairs in this building."
When the four of them had been fighting the killer just now, the noise up close had been too loud, completely drowning out the ambient sounds.
So they had no way of knowing what had happened elsewhere during that same time.
This was precisely what Ji Ning was worried about.
Right now, although there was no immediate threat to their lives, the next step was critical.
She had been mulling over whether to head straight for the main control room or to find a treasure chest, complete a task, and get a hint.
At first, the former had seemed more efficient and less time-consuming. But if Jiang Ting's speculation was correct, they needed to reconsider.
"If someone finds the main control room and completes the objective before us, what happens to us?" Ji Ning asked quietly.
She had been through sixteen instances. Some awarded different points based on completion order. Some limited the number of people who could clear it. Some let anyone clear as long as they finished the objective. And some, where the rules were unstated, saw players kill their competitors just to be safe.
Ji Ning had never experienced being in the second wave of players to complete an objective in a survival instance. Nor had she ever seen a situation where, after she finished the objective, all subsequent players were wiped out in an instance that didn't specify a limit on clearances.
But she had seen it in popular highlight reels: in survival instances with objectives, after the first batch of players completed the task, the remaining players were simply counted as having failed.
The reason the game rules were unclear was that the objectives themselves were hard to define. Take the Living Coffin instance, for example. As long as you participated, it counted as completing the objective. And because of the cooperation, all six players who survived to the end cleared it.
The same went for the Ghost Marriage Tales instance, which had the highest clearance rate Ji Ning had ever experienced. Although escaping Mount Jiyu had been a bit bumpy, all the players ultimately cleared it.
Even though survival instances weren't as rigidly defined as puzzle instances, cases where everyone cleared were truly few and far between. This instance offered even less reference value for Ji Ning's question.
Not to mention the Wellness Center instance, where all the other players had died, leaving only Ji Ning, Jiang Ting, and Qin Yanshu in the end.
The clearance condition for this current instance had clear boundaries: "Shut down the main electrical control room." So the situation was definitely different from those two previous instances.
That was why Ji Ning didn't dare to casually assume anything about the current instance's rules.
Among the four of them, Shen Yu had experienced the most instances; this was his twenty-fifth. He was the first to answer Ji Ning's question. "Looking at this clearance condition, the game content will end the moment a player shuts down the main control room. So any players who haven't completed the objective will dissipate along with the sandbox."
Even the usually taciturn Qin Yanshu voiced his opinion. "Only players who fulfill the clearance condition survive. So we either complete the objective first, or we kill the remaining players."
"If starting a task locks the room for half an hour regardless of whether you complete it, then getting a hint from a treasure chest is even less of an option for us. We don't have a 'Patient.'" Ji Ning was reminded by what Jiang Ting had just said.
She realized that just considering their own side's situation wasn't enough. They also had to consider their competitors' situation.
Jiang Ting picked up where she left off. "Worst-case scenario: the five players besides us have allied and are moving together. They are No. 2, No. 3, No. 7, No. 10, and No. 12. No. 12 is the only remaining member of the Wolf Team besides me, ranked second to last, with the Patient identity."
No more words were needed. All four of their expressions turned grave.
The opposing lineup contained all four identities. No matter what task they encountered, they could complete it.
So all those people had to do was find any treasure chest, complete the task, get the hint, and head straight for the main electrical control room. The game would be over.
They couldn't hesitate any longer. Shen Yu, carrying the chainsaw, strode forward on his long legs to lead the way. "We won't look for treasure chests, and we won't look for the main control room. We're going to find the players."
