Chapter 60: Lun Sang High School (12)
Xing Ye was silent for a moment, then said slowly, "Actually, even though this instance is only one star, many of its settings differ from other instances. So you don't need to feel embarrassed. I don't think your intuition will lead you astray."
Ji Ning's eyes widened slightly in surprise. Xing Ye had actually seen through her mental state and was comforting her?
Regarding her analysis of Zhao Jiamin's thoughts, Ji Ning had indeed been a little hesitant, because it was too absurd.
She was a bit worried that her special feelings for Xing Ye were clouding her judgment, or that an inappropriate possessiveness was making her see everything through tinted glasses.
After all, a wrong judgment in this kind of survival game could sometimes be fatal.
Ji Ning could not allow herself to make such a mistake, especially one that would affect her friends.
But she also needed Xing Ye too much. She wanted to tell him and get his help. Even being rejected would help her stabilize.
Yet her worries had been seen through by Xing Ye, and she had received his affirmation.
Ji Ning's mood was complicated, a mix of being moved, comforted, and joyful. Looking into Xing Ye's deep and devoted eyes, she suddenly felt an urge to cry.
"Silly girl." Xing Ye patted her head and planted a kiss on her forehead. "Do you know what I like about you? You dare to think, and you dare to act. That's why I believe you can make it to the end, complete thirty instances, and go to the New World."
Ji Ning had walked in with a grave expression and walked out with a dazed, silly smile. Xing Ye's words kept looping in her mind, and she felt like she was floating as she walked.
However, when she saw clearly who was standing under the shade of a distant tree looking at her, her body stiffened.
As she got closer, Zhao Jiamin's usually timid face twisted with a surge of anger. She asked airily, "What were you doing with Teacher Xing behind the podium?"
Alarm bells immediately went off in Ji Ning's heart. If she didn't answer this well, something terrible was going to happen!
She had always kept her "green tea bitch" persona in mind, constantly on guard against going OOC.
Facing Zhao Jiamin's interrogation, Ji Ning silently recited the green tea bitch essence: innocent, pure, killing with a soft knife. She adjusted her expression, smiled faintly, and answered her: "Just chatting. If you don't believe me, go ask the teacher."
Zhao Jiamin's expression visibly soured even more.
Ji Ning apologized in her heart. Treating Zhao Jiamin like air, she walked past her gracefully and left without looking back.
Xing Ye had just parted ways with Ji Ning and was still behind the podium at that moment.
Seeing Ji Ning being stopped from a distance by the key NPC who had a "crush" on him, he couldn't help but sweat for her.
Now, seeing Ji Ning leave safely, he breathed a sigh of relief and walked away from the other side of the podium.
Ji Ning returned to the classroom. Those who had eaten breakfast had already trickled back to their seats. Song Weiyang, knowing she hadn't had time for breakfast, had even brought her a sandwich.
"Thanks, Campus Heartthrob." Ji Ning reached out to take it, but Song Weiyang pulled the hand holding the sandwich back, his handsome face leaning in as he raised an eyebrow and asked her.
"What were you doing just now?"
Ji Ning leaned close to Song Weiyang's ear and whispered super quietly: "Comparing clues. I'll tell you when I get the chance."
Hearing it was game-related, Song Weiyang immediately stopped fussing. He obediently offered the sandwich with both hands, then, like a magician, pulled a bottle of soy milk from his hoodie pocket and handed it to Ji Ning.
Ji Ning was amused by him, and the fear from facing the key NPC just moments ago finally dissipated completely.
The first two morning classes passed uneventfully.
The incident happened during the eye exercises break in between.
The arts and culture committee member, Yao Lu, stormed furiously to Zhao Jiamin's desk and slammed an exercise book onto her arm. "Did you do this on purpose? You got so many wrong for me?"
Zhao Jiamin opened the exercise book to look.
Ji Ning couldn't see Zhao Jiamin's expression, but she could tell from her back that Zhao Jiamin was trembling with panic.
"Sorry... sorry... I didn't do it on purpose..."
Zhao Jiamin's voice, thin and weak like a mosquito's, was somehow audible in the silent, spectating classroom.
"I think you did it on purpose! How come everyone else's answers are right?" Yao Lu's face was twisted with anger. She grabbed Zhao Jiamin's hair and yanked it down hard, nearly making Zhao Jiamin fall.
A male voice from the back row stood up and tugged at Yao Lu's arm, advising, "Forget it, just let it go."
Only then did Yao Lu notice the whole class was watching her. She had no choice but to back down, glared at Zhao Jiamin, and returned to her own seat.
Ji Ning silently recalled that Zhao Jiamin had probably been molested by the head teacher yesterday. Distraught, she had messed up the answers she was doing for Yao Lu.
She couldn't help but sigh inwardly.
Watching Yao Lu angrily complain to others, Ji Ning felt this matter was far from over.
